Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
Tempor is a weather app for iPhone and iPad. We built it to need as little data as possible: you don't need an account, and there are no ads, no tracking and no analytics services. Below you can read exactly which data is processed.
1. Who is responsible?
Tempor is provided by R. Overduin (sole proprietorship), the Netherlands. For questions or requests about privacy, email info@tempor.org.
2. Which data, for what purpose and for how long?
2.1 Location for the forecast
- To get a forecast, the app sends the coordinates of the selected place to our server (api.tempor.org). The app first rounds them to about 1 kilometre, so a precise location never leaves your device.
- If you choose "Current location", iOS determines your position on your device. This only happens while you use the app and only if you have given permission. You can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.
- Our server temporarily stores the forecast per area of about 1 km, so that the weather service doesn't have to be queried for every request. This temporary storage contains no IP address, device ID or other data about you, and is deleted within about 7 hours.
- Legal basis: performance of the contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). Without a location we cannot show a forecast.
- With Premium, the app fetches the precipitation at the chosen place for "Rain next 2 hours" from our server, using the same rounded coordinates. The app fetches the rain radar, the wind map and the water temperature map as complete maps, without sending your location.
2.2 Your places and settings
Your favourite places and settings (such as the wind speed unit) are stored only on your device. We don't receive them.
2.3 Searching for places
Searching for a place and looking up the name of the place at your location is done through Apple Maps. Your search or location is sent to Apple, not to us. Apple processes this data under the Apple Privacy Policy.
2.4 IP address and security
- With every connection to our server your IP address is technically visible. Our server keeps no access log and does not store the IP address. To limit abuse (a maximum number of requests per minute), the server turns the IP address and the date into an encrypted code that changes every day and from which the IP address cannot be recovered. That code is deleted after a few minutes.
- Our server (api.tempor.org) is a virtual server at Strato AG (Berlin, Germany) that we manage ourselves. This website (tempor.org) runs on Strato web hosting; for that, Strato may briefly record technical data such as IP address and time in server log files. Strato does this on our behalf and within the EU.
- Legal basis: legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR), namely keeping the service secure and available.
2.5 Statistics
The server counts how many requests there are per day and how many of them fail. These are totals only, without any data about people or devices. We keep them for 90 days.
2.6 Subscription and payments
The optional Tempor Premium subscription and payment run through Apple's App Store. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details. From Apple we only receive aggregated sales figures and, if you have allowed this in iOS, anonymous statistics and crash reports. Processing by Apple is covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.
If you have Premium, the app sends the purchase data signed by Apple to our server when it fetches Premium data (the Open-Meteo forecast, the rain forecast and the wind map for 10 days). This lets the server check that the subscription is genuine and valid. It contains the product, the purchase and expiry date, the environment (App Store or test) and transaction numbers, but no name, email address or payment details. The server checks the data and does not store it; it only counts how many checks succeed or fail. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
2.7 Weather data
Our server fetches the forecasts from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute (MET Norway) and, with Premium, from Open-Meteo, using the same rounded coordinates. These weather services only see our server, not you or your device. Our server fetches radar images and weather model maps (KNMI, EUMETNET OPERA, Deutscher Wetterdienst, ECMWF and Copernicus Marine Service) as complete maps, and the water temperature and wave height measurements of Rijkswaterstaat (the Dutch water authority) as complete lists, independently of who uses the app; no locations or other data about you are sent to these services.
2.8 Contact by email
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply to you. We delete the correspondence once it is no longer needed, at the latest two years after the last contact.
3. What we don't do
- No account and no registration.
- No ads and no tracking, including across other apps or websites.
- No third-party analytics or crash reporting services in the app.
- No selling or renting of data.
- No cookies or external services on this website.

5. Recipients
- Strato AG (Germany): provides our server and the web hosting of this website, as a processor on our behalf.
- Apple: App Store, payments and Apple Maps. Apple is itself responsible for this.
- MET Norway: receives only rounded coordinates from our server, no data about you.
- Open-Meteo: only with Premium; receives only rounded coordinates from our server, no data about you.
- KNMI, EUMETNET OPERA, Deutscher Wetterdienst, ECMWF, Copernicus Marine Service and Rijkswaterstaat: receive nothing from or about you; our server only fetches complete radar images, maps and lists of measurements from them.
We do not ourselves transfer personal data to countries outside the European Economic Area.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data, to restrict processing, to data portability, and to object. Because we store almost nothing and have no accounts, we usually cannot identify you in our data. Send your request to info@tempor.org; we will reply within one month.
If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) or with the data protection authority in your own country.
7. Security
All connections between the app and our server are encrypted (HTTPS). The server is located in a data centre in Germany. We store as little as possible, and anything that isn't needed is deleted automatically.
8. Changes
When the app changes, for example with new features, we update this policy. The date at the top shows when that last happened. We also announce important changes in the app or in the update notes.
9. Language
This policy was written in Dutch and translated into other languages. In case of differences, the Dutch text prevails.
